There was a fun little fact tucked in at the end of a longer story in WWD today:

Purple, everybody’s favorite magazine, is opening its first office in New York.

Olivier Zahm has announced that it will open in September, so we expect every 2008 grad to promptly freak out and try to land their first job / internship with the good people that put out images like these to make us all giggle in the middle of the work day.

Maybe that’s why we spotted him right in our neighborhood recently… will the office be in Soho?

“What’s in Your Bag?” – The Mary-Kate Edition

This week, we took a field trip around the corner to the Young & the Banging gallery.

TYATB is a book showcasing 200 faces of “who’s next” on the creative circuit, curated by Heron Preston – and if you haven’t heard of him, you will. Purple calls it “the fascinating new generation born into the realms of fashion, art and success,” and though It may look like a grip of NYLON interns at first (well, some of them are), it really is a solid collection of some great new talent.

We set up shop on “School Photo Day” where anyone can come in and get their picture snapped yearbook-style and tour the exhibit (highly recommended). So after I got my pic snapped (after the jump!), I met up with Mary-Kate’s stunt double, a mother-son duo, and the cutest intern we’ve ever seen.

The Young & the Banging is at 255 Elizabeth Street, and you’re all invited to the final School Photo Day and closing party this Saturday, Sep. 27th from 8-11pm.

Purple Book, Party

Purple has officially appeared on discerning people’s shelves everywhere for fifteen years, and so they’ve put together an anthology of their favorite photos together in honor of this feat, complete with its own exhibition and launch party.

The exhibition will feature work by some of Purple’s greatest contributors who are featured in their Purple Anthology, including fashion favorites Juergen Teller, Terry Richardson and Richard Prince. Selected past works of theirs from the magazine will be on display at John McWhinnie at Glenn Horowitz Bookseller (a bookshop and art gallery in one) from June 10th to July 3rd.

There’ll be a reception for the launch on the night of June 10th, so expect blown up shots of models and Brad Pitt for your gawking pleasure.
